A creative retreat for Fiber Artists ~ February 12-17, 2012

We have a new format at Asilomar; Fiber Artists and Crafters in an atmosphere of sharing and creativity!

Laura Pierce is hosting this 1st Monterey Fiber Jam on the California Coast!   She looks forward to orchestrating a week of Fiber Art inspiration, exploration and exchange.   Bring a project to work on and a finished piece for Show & Tell.   The proposals are in, the votes have been tallied!   See the listing below.  The Calendar is planned for each day, with plenty of plain ole' hookin' time. There are 2 classes offered; they are optional and will not overshadow other activity.   There's still free time for conversations, excursions, projects, whims and just JAMMIN'!

Join us at lovely Asilomar, a former YWCA© retreat designed by Julia Morgan and built in 1913 with wonderful Arts & Crafts Architecture in a unique setting at Pacific Grove.   Indulge yourself with sea air, pine trees and walks by the ocean.   Renew old friendships and gain new ones at this stimulating adventure of fiber artists; jamming with ideas, techniques, projects, and accomplishments!

Hooked Journals by Michele Wise. Visuals journals are a way of recording experiences or reflections and can serve as a memory of a time and place to look back at. A visual journal can be dedicated to a specific theme or event in one's life such as a trip or a garden. The journals can act as an outlet for your creativity or a study on colors or artists. It takes a small amount of materials and time to create a unique art form. Exploring the possibilities of these journals can enhance your observations about life and hold a record of times past. I will show examples of my own journals and can show a media presentation of examples of other peoples' visual journals

Laura W. Pierce - the director; your grateful hostess!

Laura self-portrait Laura W. Pierce is director of Monterey Fiber Jam.   She is the past director of Asilomar Rug School, 2010, and Monterey Bay Rug Camp, 2011.   Laura also directs the Little River Inn Rug Camp on the Mendocino Coast, a popular camp since 2004.

A fourth generation rug hooker, Laura enjoys pulling loops of chunky wool through a backing of Linen.   Using as-is and hand-dyed wool, she enjoys the method and madness of combining colours and textures to create Rug Art.   Laura teaches Traditional Rug Hooking in Sonoma County and at camps around the country. With a background in Photography and Drafting, she shares those skills with her students; creating patterns from photographs or drawing directly on backing.   Her teaching style is collaborative; she will lend you her artistic eye.

Laura grew up in a home where friends, music and art were important.   She knows the good of mixing various ideas and abilities to create wonderful music and lively conversation!   Like a live performance, the magic is there for those who attend and participate.  The memories and friendships will last a lifetime.

With your help, the Retreat Store will be stocked with basic supplies and fiber art.

Emma Rose Logan returns as our storekeep and will keep everything running smoothly.    Flying Dog Hookery and Green Valley Rug Hooking will be there!   Let Emma know what you would like to bring for the Retreat Store.   email Emma at EmmaRoseLogan@gmail.com
